A pitcher and a slugger share the top honor for the 2013 Patriots’ baseball team.
Fort Dorchester coaches recently handed out their team superlatives for the varsity baseball team.
Pitcher/outfielder Corey Rawlings and designated hitter/first baseman Eurndraus Bryant share this year’s Patriot MVP Award. Rawlings, a rising senior, had a solid season on the mound and at the plate while Bryant, a rising junior, had multiple game-winning hits and led the team in home runs.
The Patriots’ Ace Award went to Ryan Boyle, who finished his senior season with a 5-3 pitching record. Last weekend, he participated in the North/South All-star Series as a pitcher/short stop.
The team’s Most Improved Award went to Ryan Thomas, who was the Patriots’ catcher for most of his freshman season.
Rawlings, Boyle and Bryant were all named to the 2013 Region 8-AAAA All-region Team. Rawlings was also named to the High School Sports Report All-state Team while Patriot utility player Drew Yniesta, a rising freshman, was named to the HSSR All-rookie Team.
The Patriots lost four players to graduation, including Boyle. However, the Fort program should return most of its varsity starters and a total of 21 players from its varsity and JV teams.
