An officer patrolling the Old Village saw a man walking down the sidewalk drinking something out of a brown paper bag.
By the time the officer turned his car around and stopped to talk to the suspect, he was no longer carrying the bag.
He asked the man where he threw it. The man had the officer follow him across the street to “show” him but then started running. The officer caught up with him a short distance later and put the suspect on the ground. He was then arrested for disorderly conduct and drinking in public.
He was also charged with an outstanding warrant out of Summerville for not appearing in court.
The beer can was found and placed into evidence.
