Details: Montez Martin, president of the Lowcountry Housing and Economic Development Foundation, will be the speaker. Copies of state Sen. Vincent Sheheen’s new book, “The Right Way, Getting the Palmetto State Back on Track,” will be available. What: The Mount Pleasant Men’s Reading Group

When: Last Friday morning of each month, 9:30 a.m.

Where: The Atlanta Bread Company in Towne Centre.

Details: The group is looking for new members and also welcome guests. If you enjoy reading, please join. The group differs from the standard reading foremat in that each member discusses a different book. Call Bob Guerin at 971-1754 for more information.

Women in Defense


What: WID meeting

When: Friday, June 28, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Where: Doubletree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Charleston Airport, 7401 Northwooods Boulevard Details: The Women in Defense (WID) Palmetto Chapter is pleased to present Lori Cary-Kothera with the local National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center. Cary-Kothera will present an overview of the NOAA organization, how it is organized and the type of staff and services they provide. She will also focus on coastal and ocean related topics to include Marine Spatial Planning, how NOAA helps communities with natural disasters, and how they are working with the South Carolina Ports Authority. What: VFW Post 10624 and Ladies Auxiliary Ribeye Steak Dinner

What: Friday June 28, 6-8 p.m.

Where: VFW Post 10624, 1411 Stuart Engal’s Blvd.

Shabbat


What: Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Reform Jewish Congregation will host a Shabbat service East of the Cooper.

When: Friday, June 28, 7 p.m.

Where: Franke at Seaside, 1885 Rifle Range Rd.

Gospel concert


What: Free Will Gospel Concert sponsored by Laing High School Class of 1961

When: Sunday, June 30

Where: The Garden of Prayer Holiness Church, 2537 Highway 17 North

What: Watercolor and painting class

Details: The instructor is Stafani Timmerman. The cost is $15 per class.

88 Club


What: 88 Club of Mount Pleasant meeting

When: First and third Wednesdays, 7 a.m.

Where: Page’s Okra Grill on Coleman Boulevard

Details: Each meeting has a speaker presenting interesting and timely programs. The group has about 40 active members and are always looking for more.
