The women’s barracks at the St. George Detention Center has been without hot water for the past two weeks, Detention Director Cpt. Terrance Van Doran confirmed Tuesday.
However, the first he heard about the problem was Thursday, June 20.
“Apparently,” he said, “maintenance workers thought they had the problem fixed. The person in charge was out of town, and he thought it was repaired.”
Van Doran agreed it was a case of poor communication and said emphatically “that has been addressed.”
Van Doran was not happy with the situation. “I am very irritated.”
When he notified the sheriff, Sheriff L.C. Knight was less than pleased saying “do whatever it takes and get it fixed,” said Van Doran.
A repair representative was scheduled to come Tuesday evening to see if the boiler could be fixed or if another was needed. “The boiler is 10 years old,” said Van Doran. “It is supplied by a company out of Tennessee.”
