Summerville swim teams among league leaders

  • Thursday, June 27, 2013

Four Summerville-area swim teams are off to a fast start this summer.
Coosaw Creek, Ashborough and Pine Forest were all undefeated entering Coastal Carolina Aquatic Association competition Thursday held after press time.
Coosaw Creek jumped out to a 4-0 start this year and all four wins came against Red League opponents. The Crocs have the league’s only undefeated team so they are now in first place for the league.
In the Blue League, Ashborough got out to a 5-0 start and Pine Forest started 4-0. They are the only undefeated teams in that league so Ashborough is in the lead.
White League team Newington has one out-of-league loss but has a 3-0 record in league action. That leaves the Tigersharks tied for first place in the league with Dunes West.
Blue League teams Legend Oaks and Summerville Y are out to a  1-3 and 0-3 start, respectively.
Coosaw had a bye Thursday so its major obstacle to claiming another Red League regular-season championship is a meet with Hobcaw on July 9.
In the White League, Newington was scheduled for a showdown with Crowfield Thursday. Key upcoming meets in that league include a July 2 match between Newington and Dunes West and a July 9 meet between Crowfield and Dunes West.
In the Blue League, Ashborough and Pine Forest were scheduled to go head-to-head Thursday. Pine Forest also has a key meet at James Island on July 11 so the championship for that league may come down to that final week of the regular season.
The CCAA Championship Meet (City Meet) is scheduled for July 21-23 at the Jewish Community Center in West Ashley. The season finale event will feature all 21 teams that participate in the association.
