Council votes to enter contract for Berry House

  • Monday, July 1, 2013

The Summerville Town Council voted in a special meeting Monday, to enter into a contingent contract to sell the Berry House – The Teacherage, which the town bought in January of 2008 for $697,000.
The town put $25,000 into repairing the floors. In July of 2008, the town council voted to spend more than $30,000 for a new paint job and $60,000 for general improvements to the house, to be taken from hospitality tax funds.
Mayor Bill Collins and council members declined to identify the buyer or the price saying they did not want the contract to fall through. They said as soon as the contingencies are met they will close on the property and release the amount and name of buyer. They expect all of this to happen quickly, they said.
The vote was unanimously approved by the four attending council membners – absent Monday were council members Kima Garten-Schmidt and Terry Jenkins.
