According to detention center director, Captain Terrance Van Doran, Thursday, the repair of the boiler that supplies hot water to the women’s dorm at the detention center in St. George, will be fixed as of Thursday night. The dorm has not had hot water for more than two weeks.
Van Doran said he has been told the part would arrive that afternoon and the repair made that evening.
“I was livid about this,” he said. “I have apologized to the women and told them I am glad one of them contacted the newspaper.” Van Doran said that without the call from the newspaper he would not have found out about the problem when he did, which was days after it started.
Van Doran said he told the inmates that, in the future, if there was a problem such as this they should fill out a request form. The inmates told Van Doran they had told the guards, but apparently the message didn’t get all the way up the chain of command to Van Doran’s desk.
“Telling the officers should have been sufficient,” Van Doran agreed. “But I have addressed the problem. This shouldn’t have happened.”
