Doty Park underwater on July 4. FRANK FREEMAN/FOR THE JOURNAL SCENE

Dear Editor,
I was astounded when I took my grandsons to play on the Doty Park playground equipment on July 4th.
While we hadn’t had any rain before noon, I was flabbergasted to see the swings surrounded by a lake;
even stepping into the area, our feet sank into the wood chips!!
It only took me a split second to realize that the brick retaining wall surrounding the playground had no weep holes!
Was it the architect, Parks & Recreation project manager, or brick mason who failed to consider the effect a solid wall would have?
Hopefully, someone with a scintilla of sense will go to Doty Park and drill several weep holes at the bottom of the walls.
Frank Freeman
