Summerville Green and Goose Creek to battle for League 1 title

  • Thursday, July 11, 2013

File - Infielder Andrew Kenny helped the Summerville American Legion Baseball Juniors reach the League 1 championship series this week.

The Summerville American Legion Baseball Juniors Green team opened the League 1 Tournament this week with two wins and a loss to advance to the League championship series.
The bad news for Summerville fans is the Summerville Gold team didn’t make it to the championship series and Summerville Green has to face Goose Creek in the championship series scheduled to begin July 11 at 6 p.m. Goose Creek handed Summerville Green its only loss of the tournament Tuesday.
Summerville Green earned a 12-5 win over Moncks Corner Monday and a 16-1 win over Summerville Gold Wednesday to advance to the championship series. With Wednesday’s loss, Summerville Gold was eliminated from the tournament.
The winner of the championship series advances to play in the South Carolina American Legion Baseball Juniors state tournament. Summerville Green will have to defeat Goose Creek in back-to-back games in order to earn that honor.
Last year, the Summerville team did advance to the state tournament and made it all the way to the finals before falling to 2012 champion Socastee.
