Providing information on its website for new business is one way that DREAM can help   businesses locate in Summerville or expand their local business. See Summervilledream.org and click on New Business Information.
DREAM (Downtown Revitalization, Enhancement, and Management) is well structured to help downtown business expand and to fill vacant commercial property.
The Economic Restructuring Committee of DREAM is chaired by DREAM board member Howard Bridgman. The committee envisions putting helpful information at the fingertips of business owners. We know that information about Summerville and its business environment is one of the first things new businesses look for.
The DREAM site provides helpful information from the Town of Summerville, Dorchester County and the State of South Carolina. For example, where to get a Town business license, how to obtain state tax information as well as a variety of county resources is only a click away.
Rick Sutton, Frame Design & Gallery owner and ER Committee member, sees this information as a time saver for new business people. “Think like a new business coming to Town. Rather than drive all over the Town to find this information, it can be located in minutes thanks to the internet.” In addition the site has a listing of available commercial properties for lease or sale.
It takes a community to grow a successful business and DREAM is proud to be able to help.
Another mission of the DREAM board is to provide a bridge between the downtown business community and Town government. Mayor Collins realizes the importance of local business and helps wherever possible. The Mayor told a group of downtown merchants at recent forum sponsored by DREAM that he understands that while growth in the Tri-County area will bring challenges it will also provide opportunities. We must all work together for the benefit of our community.
The ER Committee is one of four committees that provide guidance to the DREAM. The others are the Design, Promotion and Organization committees. The 12 DREAM board members and executive director meet monthly to further the group’s mission which is “to sustain the quality of life in Summerville by supporting the aesthetic, cultural, social and economic vitality of our historic downtown”. DREAM can be reached at 821-7260 or at its website summervilledream.org.
