Crocs, Alligators run the table
City Meet titles up for grab next week
Two Summerville-area teams completed the 2013 Coastal Carolina Aquatics Association regular season as the association’s only undefeated teams.
The Coosaw Creek swim team completed its 2013 regular season Thursday by earning a 359-176 win over Longpoint to improve its record to 8-0. The perfect mark makes the Crocodiles the Red League regular-season champion. Snee Farm (7-1) placed second in the league after suffering only one loss this season. Trailing in the league are Daniel Island (6-2), Hobcaw (5-3), Northbridge (4-4), Shadowmoss (3-5) and Parkshore (1-6).
Ashborough finished the season at 8-0 to place first in the Blue League. Fellow Summerville team Pine Forest finished at 6-2 to tie with James Island for second place in the Blue League and Legend Oaks (5-3) claimed fourth place. Trailing in the league are I’On (4-4), Fort Johnson (3-4), Federal Armed Services Team (2-6), Jewish Community Center (1-7) and Summerville YMCA (0-7).
Newington finished the season at 5-3 to tie with Dunes West for first place in the White League. Trailing in that league are Crowfield (4-4), Sha-Mel-Lon (3-5), Brickyard (2-6), Country Club of Charleston (1-6) and Longpoint (1-7).
This week, all 23 CCAA teams are preparing for the association’s championship meet also known as City Meet. The event is scheduled to kick off July 21 at the Jewish Community Center in West Ashley and conclude July 23.
Coosaw is looking to earn its third consecutive City Meet championship. As always the Crocs main competition is expected to be Snee Farm, which once reeled off 22 straight City Meet titles. When the two teams went head-to-head earlier this summer, Coosaw earned a 299-238 victory. However, the Crocs had the home-pool advantage for that meet.
In the Blue League, Pine Forest looks to be the major competition for Ashborough. When they met June 27, Ashborough earned a 313-224 win in what turned out to be the Alligators’ closest meet of the season.
The race for the White League title could prove to be the most interesting race this year. During the regular season, Newington defeated Dunes West 281.5 to 255.5, but fell 294-242 to Crowfield. Meanwhile, Dunes West defeated Crowfield 274-263.
