Pinewood camp offers variety
The Pinewood Prep campus was bustling with activity last week.
Boys and girls age 6 to 13 participated in activities ranging from tennis to dodgeball during the first annual Pinewood Sports Camp held July 8-12. Pinewood tennis coach Bryant McKee and girls’ soccer coach Gail Osborne provided the instruction for the summer camp.
“We thought this would be a good way to help kids build a foundation for soccer and tennis,” Osborne said. “They kind of complement each other with the footwork and everything. Once we started talking about it we decided it would be good to add other sports to kind of round it out.”
Each day camp consisted of 1.5 hours of tennis instruction, 1.5 hours of soccer instruction, one hour of indoor games and one hour of recreational swimming with a qualified lifeguard present. The indoor games included floor hockey, kickball, dodgeball, basketball and indoor soccer.
The camp is not limited to Pinewood students. Because the school has two gyms, it can be held rain or shine.
“It’s open to the entire community and in the case of rain we just move the tennis and soccer instruction inside,” Osborne said. “We’ve had a really good group of kids and it has been a really good week.”
Camp hours are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Registration is $150 per camper.
Information on next summer’s camp should be available in March or April; just email Osborne at email@example.com.
