Summerville High School will likely have a girls’ golf team this school year.
After several years of not fielding a girls’ golf team, SHS is having tryouts for a girls’ golf program beginning Aug. 2. Tryouts will be held at Summerville (Miler) Country Club.
Coaches Tori Shephard and Aaron Litz will supervise the tryouts, which are expected to take between three and five days depending on the number of golfers participating and the weather. Younger golfers as well as upper classmen are being encouraged to tryout.
Students must be academically eligible for high school sports and be able to pass a medical physical in order to play but a completed medical physical is not required to tryout.
Interested SHS students or middle school students who will attend SHS should report to the Summerville Country Club golf course ready to tee off by 3 p.m. on tryout days. Athletes should wear a collared shirt and athletic shoes (no denim) and have their own golf equipment (clubs, balls, etc.).
