Fire department responds to Somerset Apts.

Mid-day Thursday, Summerville Fire Department responded to a general alarm fire to Apt. L at the Somerset Apartments off Boone Hill Road in Summerville.
According to Chief Richard Waring, the found a small fire in the walls between two apartments that extended to the floor above.
Within an hour, he said they had it under control. Fire damaged two apartments and the rest of the building was filled with smoke. All residents were evacuated and no one was injured, said Waring.
The local American Red Cross assisted eight adults and two children providing financial assistance for lodging, food and clothing and giving everyone a comfort kit with hygiene products.
Also responding under mutual aid were Old Fort Fire Department and North Charleston Fire Department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
