An Ashley Ridge High School teacher and basketball coach has been arrested for allegedly sending an obscene phone message to a student.
On Tuesday the Dorchester County Sheriff's Department served Summerville resident Andrew Jonathan Gerhardt, 27, with an arrest warrant for the charge of disseminating obscene material to a person under 18 years of age.
The sheriff's department responded to the high school on Monday regarding a complaint made to Principal Karen Radcliffe of improper conduct by a teacher toward a female, 16-year-old student. According to a sheriff's department incident report, the student's parents reported finding a message on their daughter's phone that included a photo of Gerhardt with his penis exposed.
Dorchester School District Two released a press release Friday stating the teacher had been with the district for one year and school officials had cooperated fully with the investigation. District Two Information Officer Pat Raynor said on Thursday the teacher was given a notice of recommendation for dismissal.
