North Charleston, S.C. / August 5, 2013 – Trident Health is proud to announce that according to a new Consumer Reports rating, they have been ranked as the top Charleston hospital in surgery safety, for five common surgery types. The objective ratings analyzed complications, length of hospital stays and mortality rates to determine their ratings. The August edition of Consumer Reports rated 2,463 hospitals for common surgical procedures using three years of Medicare billing records.
For the first time, Consumer Reports rated U.S. hospitals on how patients fare during and after surgery. The ratings include an overall surgery rating, which combines results for 27 categories of scheduled surgeries, as well as individual ratings for five specific procedure types: back surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, angioplasty, and carotid artery surgery.
“We are extremely pleased to add another national recognition that highlights the level of patient care that our surgeons, anesthesiologists and entire surgical services team provide. Patients deserve to be informed on which hospitals offer the highest level of quality care and patient safety,” said Todd Gallati, Trident Health President.
Trident Health, which includes Trident, Summerville and Moncks Corner Medical Centers, recently also received Blue Distinction for Knee and Hip replacement surgeries from Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
