Jack Miller, 93, of Summerville, husband of Mary Behrens Miller, passed early Sunday, August 4, 2013.
A mass celebrating his life will be held Friday morning, August 9, 2013 at 9:00 at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, Summerville. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, August 10, 2013 at 9:00 at the chapel in the Village at Summerville. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd. Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
Jack was born June 9, 1920 in Charleston, SC to Anthony Conrad and Katie Welcker Miller. After graduating from North Charleston High School, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Far East, China and the Philippines. He left the Navy only to return to military service at the beginning of WWII as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his military service, he began working at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a welder, doing so until securing a position with the U.S. Postal Service in Summerville, SC. He was a Rural Mail Carrier in the Summerville area until he retired in 1978.
Grandpa loved playing cards, loved dancing and loved to relax playing golf. He was quite the craftsman and enjoyed doing his projects around the house and in his shop. He created furniture that children and grandchildren cherish. He was a life-long member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church in Summerville.
Surviving are his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Behrens Miller; his brother, David C. and Anne Miller of Branford, CT; his daughter, Jennifer M. and Michael F. Harris of Lorton, VA; his son, Dr. W. Tom and Lyn R. Miller of Summerville; his five grandchildren, Michael F. and Nicole Harris of California, Kim Miller of Atlanta, Kate Miller of Summerville, Ellie and Marty DeSanto II of Moncks Corner, Stephen and Brishelle Miller of Raleigh; his four great grandchildren: Jacob, Isaac, and Samuel Harris and Jackson Thomas DeSanto; and his three step great grandchildren: Angela, Jenna and Marty DeSanto III. He was predeceased by his son, John Robert Miller of Summerville; his sister, Mary Miller Campbell of Ladson; and his brother, William Harry Miller of Atlanta.
