FBI takes over interstate tax scam
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a possible tax fraud involving several different companies and subjects. According to the Summerville complainant, Contemporary Motor Cars of New Jersey is claiming that he purchased a 2013 Mercedes. He did not. The paperwork was signed by an unknown subject in the victim’s name, notarized by another suspect and that information was sent to Green Light Title Loans of Oregon.
A reported representative for one of the companies then called attempting to obtain money using the DCSO as its collection agent. The recipient of the call at DCSO noted that this was a probably tax fraud where companies file false paperwork stating that a vehicle was purchased and taxes are owed due to an out-of-state purchase.
DCSO contacted the FBI because of the interstate involvement and the FBI advised DCSO it would be taking over the case.
