City annexes Howe Hall Road property

  • Tuesday, August 20, 2013

The Goose Creek city limit has inched its way a little further down Howe Hall Road.
Goose Creek City Council passed a second and final reading of an ordinance to annex 2.35 acres of land at 128 Howe Hall Road. This action took place at the regular Aug. 13 meeting at city hall.
A mini-storage facility currently sits on the property, according to Goose Creek Public Information Officer Jesica Mackey.
The first reading of the ordinance took place at a special July 25 council meeting.
At this meeting City Administrator Dennis Harmon said the property owner approached the city about the annexation.
“The developer proposed to build a grocery center,” Harmon said on July 25. “We have been pursing that for some time now.”
According to Harmon about 80 percent of the land is wetlands, which presents a problem. “The property closest to the road is where the facility would have been considered.”
