School bus breaks down

  • Friday, August 23, 2013

A school bus, taking children home from Flowertown Elementary Friday, which was initially thought to have caught fire, simply had smoke coming from the rear of the bus but no fire, according to Dorchester District Two Public Information Officer Pat Raynor.
Scanner traffic suggests a hose had come lose.
In the interest of student safety, Durham officials dispatched a second bus to the scene, evacuated the children from the disabled bus and continued the bus route with the second bus taking the children home.
Mechanics are checking out the source of the smoke, according to the bus company, said Raynor.
