The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Divisions is investigating the discovery of human remains on Utsey Hill Road in St. George August 17.
At around 5 p.m. deputies were dispatched to Utsey Rd., where they met with a man who had been looking for his hunting dogs when he met up with a hunter who told him he had found a human skull in the woods.
The man and another hunter went into the woods, located the skull and contacted the St. George Police. The St. George police told them to call the Sheriff’s Office because it was in their jurisdiction.
The DCSO Crime Scene Unit responded, as did detectives and the coroner. At the location of the skull, they discovered other bones.
According to Captain James Nettles, chief investigator, DCSO Criminal Investigations Division, they are waiting forensic results in order to identify the remains and hopefully determine cause of death.
They expect the results within 30 days.
