The body of a 29-year-old female was found inside an apartment at the Waverly Place Apartments in North Charleston, officials say.
The body of Rachel Nicole LeCroy was found in an apartment on Waverly Place Lane, off Dorchester Road, after a fire Monday evening. Investigators say they have not determined the cause of the fire.
Firefighters were dispatched to the apartment complex after reports of a structure fire at Waverly Place Apartments, 300 Waverly Place Circle, Apartment H1.
10:25 p.m., Ashley River Fire Department responded and made entry to extinguish the fire and subsequently located the female adult, according to DCSO PIO Sam Richardson.
Fire investigators say they have not determined the cause of the fire.
According to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet, an autopsy is scheduled to determine cause and manner of death.
Richardson said South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Arson investigators were called to assist in the fire investigation and assist the Sheriff's Office with determining cause and origin of the fire. The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office will be the lead agency in the investigation, said Richardson.
