Green Wave Receivers David Coccoli and Julian Gibbs celebrate Coccoli’s 28-yard TD reception during the Sertoma Football Classic. ROGER LEE/JOURNAL SCENE

The Green Wave shutout the two-time defending Class AA state champion for two quarters Friday.
Summerville looked strong as it earned a 17-0 victory over Bishop England during a two-quarter scrimmage that was part of the annual Sertoma Football Classic held at Johnson Hagood Stadium.
Sophomore quarterback Sawyer Bridges spread passes around to six different receivers, completing approximately a dozen including two touchdown strikes. Bridges connected with junior David Coccoli for a 28-yard touchdown play that featured some explosive running after the catch. In the closing seconds of the scrimmage, Bridges threw a deep ball to senior William Luck, who made a leaping catch and then dashed into the end zone with only four seconds remaining.
Seniors Sean Smith and Johnston McCurry also had multiple receptions during the scrimmage.
Senior kicker David Kennedy put points on the board for Summerville with a 25-yard field goal and two PAT kicks.
Summerville also had some luck moving the ball on the ground. Junior Darrell Ford did most of the running, but players like Bridges and Darrin Smalls also had carries.
