After almost two years of searching, Dorchester County has hired a Chief Financial Officer.
Justin Powell has filled the position; his first day was Monday, Aug. 26.
The position of finance director became vacant in Feb. 2012.
County Administrator Jason Ward formally introduced Powell to the County Council at their meeting Monday.
“We are really excited to have someone of his talents and experience on our team,” he said.
According to Ward, Powell worked in a variety of finance positions in the city of Greenville after working for IBM and graduating from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a masters degree in public administration.
He said Powell will have supervisor responsibilities over county Human Resources, Budget and Finance, Assessor, Purchasing and Risk Management and Safety departments.
The application process from the position was conducted in two stages, the first round in Oct. 2012 and the second in Apr. 2013. Of all the candidates who applied, only 13 were selected for interviews.
“I am really excited to be returning to the Lowcountry and feel honored to be selected as C.F.O. by Mr. Ward,” he said. “Dorchester County is a great community and my wife and I are looking forward to becoming a part of it.”
