SHS plans blood drive
Summerville High School and the American Red Cross will hold their first blood drive sponsored by the Student Council on September 6, in the SHS Mini-Gym.
Students, 16 or older, can donate blood by signing up outside the library. Students who are 16 years old will need a parent permission form in order to donate.
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds another individual needs blood, and more than 44,000 donations are needed daily to keep up with the demands. In a case such as a car accident, a victim may need as many as one hundred pints of blood in order to survive, so every donation matters.
Students with health risks should consult a physician prior to donating. If donating, be sure to eat healthy during the day and drink plenty of fluids to reduce post donation fatigue.
