With its Twin Towers leading the way, the Fort Dorchester volleyball team swept a match with Cane Bay and West Ashley Thursday.
Fort Dorchester junior Monica Mack had eight kills on the night, five service aces and two blocks for points while senior Jasmine Quinn added five kills, six blocks for points and an ace.
“Monica is in her second year with the varsity and she is really stepping up,” Patriots’ coach Tarshie Burrell said. “We call her and Jasmine the Twin Towers because when they play next to each other ain’t nothing getting by.”
Rachel Phillips, Kira Ozegovich, Amanda Gluck and libero McKenzie Long also had a strong night for the Patriots, which improved to 3-0 with the wins.
“We still have some things we are working on but the team played well,” Burrell said. “We have some big people up front and an awesome back row. Tonight they didn’t let a ball fall without going after it so I’m proud of them.”
The Patriots rolled through their match with the Cobras, winning 25-8, 25-13. West Ashley proved a little more difficult, but Fort Dorchester fought to win two straight games, 25-22 and 25-21.
Cane Bay fared better against West Ashley. After falling 25-14 to the Wildcats, the Cobras turned in a strong performance at the service line to claim a 25-16 win. Jessica Heavner and Lindsay Manning combined for seven service aces in the game and Brett Pitcher also had an ace.
However, West Ashley took charge halfway through the deciding game to claim a 25-17 victory.
Pitcher led the Cobra offense in the trimatch, finishing with some 16 points.
