Dorchester County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a domestic violence incident with weapons involved September 2 on Embassy Drive in Summerville. Arriving they were told by the 60-year-old victim that her 47-year-old husband and she were arguing when he grabbed her by the throat and began choking her. He choked her to the point that she felt she was losing consciousness. He put his hands over her mouth and nose and attempted to suffocate her.
She told police she managed to get away but that he then struck at her face with a closed fist hitting her above the eye. She was then kicked in the stomach by her husband so hard she was knocked to the ground, she told police, injuring the back of her upper arm. She said her husband then grabbed a knife and told her if she called the police he would kill her.
The victim said her husband then cut the top of his left forearm telling her that if the police came he would tell them she would be the one who goes to jail.
DCEMS responded to the scene and found the victim’s injuries to be non life-threatening. The deputy saw what appeared to be hand prints around the victim’s neck and throat, red and blue in color. He also observed a bruise about three inches in length on the back of her upper arm.
The husband denied assaulting the victim and showed police his cut. Police say due to the shallowness, angle of cut and the fact the husband is right-handed; they believe the cut to be self-inflicted. The husband was arrested and charged with Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature and remanded to the jail.
In a different assault, Summerville Police were called to The Grove at Oakbrook apartments on Midland Parkway for an assault and battery. The victim told police that the subject came banging on her door at about 1:30 a.m. September 3, and when she opened it, put his hands around her neck and shoved her into her apartment. The victim said the altercation moved into her bedroom where her son was sleeping. She said she was shoved into a mirror shattering it. The man then took her cell phone and locked himself in the bathroom. He then exited the bathroom and shoved the victim to the floor. She asked a neighbor to call police.
However the Subject tells a different story. He says they went out to dinner and that she wanted him to stay the night but he refused so she took his keys. He went to his vehicle and went to sleep but then went back to the apartment at 11 p.m. to ask for the keys when she rushed him and hit him. He said he took her phone and went back downstairs. The male subject did not have any physical indication of injuries. The female did.
Police issued a protective measure to the female victim.
