Beech Hill Elementary School in Dorchester School District Two has received a $2,500 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The grant will support the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) currently being used during ELA, reading, and literacy instruction.
The goal of the project is to provide children who have developmental disabilities with the communication, cognitive, emotional, and social experiences needed for reading and learning.
The project will serve 70 children at Beech Hill Elementary School and will be facilitated by school speech pathologists Emily Noble and Stephanie Swan. The grant funding will support teacher training, parent workshops, books, key equipment, and materials.
