Mary Letitia O’Neil, 97, of The Terrace at The Woodlands, Texas passed away on September 8, 2013.  Mrs. O’Neil was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 12, 1916, the daughter of Robert C. and Mary L. Darling.  Mary was a graduate of Rockland High School and Burdett School of Business in Massachusetts and was employed as a secretary at the Rockland Trust Company for ten years.  After raising her children and relocating to Texas, she proudly earned an AA Degree from San Jacinto College in 1971 at the age of 55.
Mrs. O’Neil was a dedicated volunteer for various charitable organizations for 35 years.  They included The Children’s Specialized Hospital (New Jersey), Red Cross Volunteer (Maryland), Costal Center (South Carolina) and Trident Literacy Association (South Carolina). Her interests included spending time with her family, golf, music, reading, bridge and gardening.
 Mary O’Neil was preceded in death by her husband, John, in January of 2012.  They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on July 3, 2011.  In their years together, the O’Neil family lived in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Texas, Ontario and South Carolina.
Survivors include her son David B. O’Neil of Houston, Texas, her daughter Linda M. Chidester of Conroe, Texas, her grandchildren, Robert Chidester of Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania and Patrick Chidester of Humble, Texas and her brother, Robert J. Darling of Sonora California.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Terrace at the Woodlands and ISC Hospice Service nurses who comforted mom in her final weeks.
The Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in The Woodlands, Texas at 11:00 AM.  The visitation was held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Forest Park the Woodlands Funeral Home; from 7:00PM- 8:00PM (Rosary at 7:00 PM) The Rite of committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boston College fund at www.bc.edu/give.
