SLED charges woman in DCDC theft

Lillian L. Thomas

Lillian L. Thomas, 44, of Walterboro was charged Friday with Breach of Trust of more than $10,000 and Misconduct in Office of a public official for the embezzlement of approximately $80,306 from the Dorchester County Detention Center.
Police charge that Thomas, the Programs Officer at the DCDC responsible for reconciling all cash, money orders and checks taken by the DCDC, stole the money.
Thomas admitted to “stealing an unknown amount in cash deposits,” according to the warrant, from the DCDC between January and July 20 2013.
The charges are a felony – punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $500 – and a misdemeanor – punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
SLED conducted the investigation at the request of the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office.
The cases will be prosecuted by the First Circuit Solicitor's Office.
