Pinewood golf team remains undefeated

The Pinewood Girls Golf team upped its record to 10-0 last week with a couple of wins, but it wasn't easy.
On Monday the Panthers traveled to Charleston National to take on their toughest test yet.  They played a strong Wando High School team and came away with a close win.  The Lady Panthers, who over the past few years have been winning with relative ease, found themselves in a dogfight with the Warriors.
The Panthers were able to walk away with a win 187-189 thanks to a fine effort from sophomore Michaela McAuley. After the first two golfers had finished the Panthers found themselves down by six shots, but McAuley came through with a 46 to beat her girl by 12 shots to put the Panthers in front by six. Caroline Chester lost to her Wando opponent by four but by keeping it close was able to allow the Panthers to earn the hard-fought victory.
"We' have been very fortunate that we have been able to win most matches fairly easily but this one was nip and tuck all the way to the final hole," Pinewood coach Greg Baechtle said. "Michaela did a great job on a tough course and we were lucky to be able to come away with the win and keep our win streak alive."
Senior Reona Hirai had a 38, Olivia Coyle turned in a 45 and Chester rounded out the scoring with a 58.
Last Thursday saw the Lady Panthers return to their old ways as they cruised to a 178-234 win over Berkeley High School.  Hirai led the Lady Panthers with a 1 under 35, Chester shot 45, Coyle had a 48 and Kerstin Fridh rounded out the Panthers scoring with a 50.
Over the past two-and-a-half years the Panthers now boast an incredible 46-0 record.
This week will see the Lady Panthers travel to Charleston to take on West Ashley High School and return home on Thursday to host Ashley Hall.
