As the autumn season begins, Summerville residents come closer to the polls.
The special election for the state Senate District 42 seat will take place Oct. 1. The candidates are Democrat Marlon Kimpson, Libertarian Alex Thornton and Republican Billy Shuman.
Citizens residing in the Patriot Precinct – a section of Dorchester County between the county line, Dorchester Rd., Ashley Phosphate Rd., and the Southern half of Windsor Hill Plantation community – are a part of District 42 and have the right to vote.
The Summerville municipal election will take place on Nov. 5, along with the Dorchester County referendum election. Those wishing to vote on Election Day must register by Oct. 5.
Four positions are on the ballot for the municipal election: town councilmembers representing Districts 1, 3 and 5, and one commissioner of public works. All of the incumbents – Aaron Brown, Walter Bailey, Kima Garten-Schmidt, and George “Jordy” Tupper, respectively – and newcomer John C. “Corbitt” Hinson have filed.
Registration is available online at www.DorchesterVotes.org or in person at the Dorchester County Registration and Elections Commission, 201 Johnston St., St. George.
