Cavs pass and run to 56-38 win
St. John’s Christian Academy used their wings and wheels to earn their second win of the season with a 56-38 win over Coastal Christian Prep last Friday at SJCA.
Quarterback Harun Scott threw for four touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Cavaliers in the win. Scott connected with three different receivers on scoring strikes.
Scott hooked up with Byron Rodgers on a 25-yard touchdown pass at the 6:00 mark of the first quarter to put the Cavaliers on the board, 8-0. Less than five minutes later, Scott struck again, this time from the ground, a 40-yard romp to put SJCA up 16-0.
On the first play of the Cougars’ ensuing possession Coastal Christian coughed up the football. Scott then found receiver Damian Hurta on an 80-yard catch and run to put the Cavaliers on top 22-0.
A late second quarter TD put the Cougars on the board and with the two-point conversion made the score 22-8 going into the locker room.
SJCA wasted little time in the third quarter, scoring again at the 11:47 mark when John Fondren romped 37-yards to put the Cavs up by a 30-8 score.
St. John’s turned on the jets when Colin Murchison stripped the ball free and ran 75 yards for the score.
Scott followed with a 65-yard run up the middle to put SJCA on top 44-16.
Coastal Christian found their game in the fourth quarter and scored twice to close the gap to 44-32 before the Cavaliers put the game on ice.
Stepping under center, Dustin Parsons bolted 75 yards on the option with 4:54 in the game to increase the lead to 50-32. Following a final CCP score, Scott then connected with receiver Jalen Ward for his fourth TD pass of the night from 68 yards out to close out the scoring.
