I got a flier from the Trident Realtors Assoc. about voting for an increase in the local option tax here in Dorchester County. It claims that the increase will help lower our property taxes.
I want all of you residents of Dorchester County to remember the ploy that County Council perpetrated on us with the increase in the sales tax to complete the widening to fur lanes of Dorchester road to 17-A. We voted to let the county into our wallets.
Later we found out that the county was going to get government money for that project. What happened to the money from that tax increase?
The only way that I would vote to let County Council back into my wallet is if all of the council members signed a letter of intent that all the monies raised from the increase would go straight into lowering our property taxes and not be funneled off into some other project. The letter would also have to be witnessed by at least three reputable judges and not the good old boys ones either.
