Burglar gets big surprise
A would-be burglar got a big surprise September 26, when he climbed through a window at a mobile home park on Tipson Street in North Charleston only to be greeted by the mobile home park-owner with a gun.
By the time police arrived on scene, the burglar – 23-year-old Jerome Sprague of North Charleston – was lying on the ground, in handcuffs, while Robert Windom, park owner, held a gun on him.
According to the North Charleston Police Department incident report, Windom pulled the curtain aside from outside the mobile home and pointed his gun at Sprague who was inside in a bedroom. He told Sprague to climb back through the window and lie on the ground. Sprague complied.
Windom then asked another resident to get some handcuffs out of his truck which he put on Sprague.
The responding officer took over for Windom, applying his official handcuffs. The officer noticed pry marks on the window and fresh dirt inside the bedroom. Sprague freely admitted to police he had broken in with the intent to steal.
