History lecture series returns
Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler’s annual history lecture series has returned to city hall this fall.
The “Goose Creek Backyard History Series” will take place every Thursday through Nov. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Goose Creek City Hall, located at 519 N. Goose Creek Blvd.
The lectures are free and open to the public. They detail roughly 300 years of area history.
Heitzler discusses the characters that made up the area and shows historic photos on a slide projector. He intersperses quotes written by people who lived in the area for each section of the lecture series and overviews what life was like for citizens back then.
The lecture series schedule is as follows:
Oct. 10: “Goose Creek Men” Murder and Mayhem
Oct. 17: Goose Creek Slavers, Planters and Merchants
Oct. 24: Goose Creek at the Cross Roads of the American Revolution
Oct. 31: White Men in Gray and Black Men in Blue in Goose Creek
Nov. 7: The KKK and the Rise of the New South in Old Goose Creek
Nov. 14: Bar Fights and the Ascension of the Modern City of Goose Creek
