Nationally recognized performer, storyteller Tim Lowry will present a workshop on “Telling Stories from American History” at the Summerville Chamber of Commerce Boardroom on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The cost of the workshop (including lunch) is $65. The number of workshop participants is limited to 20 people. To register, go to www.storytellertimlowry.com.
In addition to stage performers and storytellers, this workshop is perfect for historic interpreters, museum staff, tour guides, and teachers of history. Using techniques from the worlds of theater and opera, workshop participants will create engaging characters drawn from the pages of American history.
Lowry will also demonstrate how to use costume design and stage craft to enhance stories with a historical theme. Prior storytelling experience is not required, but participants should be able to tell a short story (five minutes or less) from the life of a favorite historical figure.
Lowry specializes in stories of the American people. He recently performed as a featured “New Voice” at the prestigious National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN.
His one-man show “Every Inch A Gentleman: Stories from Charleston’s Golden Age” has been seen by audiences from Florida to Connecticut. Lowry is currently the resident storyteller at the historic Timrod Library in Summerville.
