Summerville Family YMCA Launches Annual Community Support Campaign

  • Friday, October 11, 2013

Provided All funds raised to the YMCA Annual Campaign go to support YMCA programs such as the YMCA Tidalwaves Swim Team, after school care, youth sports, health and wellness, summer camp and more.

Every day, the Summerville Family YMCA serves as a gathering place for the community. Families learn how to eat healthy and grow together at Lunch and Learn every month at the Downtown YMCA. Kids pour into the after school enrichment program at the Oakbrook YMCA to play and do homework. Seniors connect with one another through exercise classes and group activities such as SilverSneakers at YMCA at The Ponds. To ensure that the Y can continue to provide Summerville residents with life enhancing services, the Summerville Family YMCA is launching its annual community support campaign.

As a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, financial gifts to the Y will help advance programming and services that support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. More importantly, gifts to the Summerville Family YMCA stay in the community, having a direct impact on residents right here in Summerville.

“Through our community support campaign, we want to educate people that we are more than a place to go to exercise or swim, but an organization that does vital work thanks to the support of the community,” said Gary Lukridge, CEO, Summerville Family YMCA. “The Y contributes to improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods through a variety of ways that benefit all of us who live and work in Summerville.”

Last year, the Summerville Family YMCA raised $61,566 in financial assistance for kids to have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school; for families to reconnect and grow together; and for people to gain access to education and training to reach their full potential.

This year, the Summerville Family YMCA hopes to raise $71,300. Funds raised will go to support the YMCA scholarship program where no one is ever turned away for inability to pay for any YMCA program such as after school care, youth sports programming, health and wellness activities, swim lessons, summer camp and more.

The Summerville Family YMCA supports youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y aims to engage more people in the communities served by the Summerville Family YMCA as members, volunteers, supporters or advocates. All play a vital role in strengthening the communities.
