Summerville man arrested for child porn

North Charleston Police arrested Shawn Gibeaut, 27, of Summerville Oct. 9, for four counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

On Dec 24, 2012, North Charleston Police Department responded to Ashley Phosphate Rd. in reference to a report of a stolen laptop. The victim was able to provide information to identify the laptop. The victim further advised that the laptop was equipped with a program that would allow them to track the computer and what was viewed when it was activated.

Between the dates of April 4 and April 5, 2013, the computer was activated and alerted Computrace Lojack for laptops.

The company was then able to access the computer where it observed the following information contained on the computer: screen captures of juvenile females that emphasize full or partial frontal nudity with exposure of the female genitalia and objects being inserted.

Based on the information obtained from Computrace, investigators conducted a search warrant on IP address 71.76.1.44, which belongs to Time Warner Cable.

On May 22, 2013, detectives received the information from the search warrant, which identified the owner of that IP address as Shawn Gibeaut.

On July 16, detectives made contact with Gibeaut who advised that he was the owner of the computer but advised that it was no longer at his residence. Gibeaut provided detectives with the location of the computer, Rivers Ave., in North Charleston. Detectives responded to this location and recovered the laptop. The investigation is still on going.
