Davis, Koets marry in fall ceremony

Mrs. Joseph Frederick Koets

Monica Searl Davis and Joseph Frederick Koets were united in marriage on October 19, 2013, on the steps of her paternal grandparents’ homeplace in Bolentown, South Carolina. Pastor Maryn McKellar and Pamela Crum officiated at the 5:30 service. A reception followed at Buck Ridge Plantation.

Originally from Cope, SC, the bride is the daughter of the late Mr. Michael A. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Nick LaTerra (Gwynette) of Cope. Grandparents of the bride are the late Mr. and Mrs. Evie Lee Davis (Delores) and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Allen Pigott (Doreeta) of Orangeburg. She was given in marriage by her uncle, Mr. Joseph A. Davis.

The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Donald J. Koets (Eleanor) of Summerville, SC. He is the grandson of the late Mrs. Julia (Jewel) Pharr White (Thomas B.) of Greenville, SC; Mrs. Judith Irby Brownlee of Charlotte, NC, and the late Dr. Robert Calvin Brownlee, III; and the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Frederick Koets (Margaret) of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The bride wore an ivory fitted gown with lace tulle overlay, sweetheart neckline, v-back, and scalloped lace hemline. Her fingertip-length veil was held in place by a handcrafted rose gold hair comb. She carried a bouquet of red gerber daisies, plum calla lilies, and Queen Anne’s lace.

Mrs. Andi Fanning Atkins of Florence, SC, cousin of the bride, served as Matron of Honor. Bridesmaids were sister of the groom Ms. Julia Brownlee Koets of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Robyn Young, cousin of the bride, of Delray Beach, FL; Mrs. Jeanna Reynolds, of Orangeburg, SC; Mrs. Rachel Jones of Tampa, FL; Mrs. Lou Norman, of Lexington, SC; Ms. Ashley Furlong of Charleston, SC; Ms. Candice Demers, of Florence, SC; and Mrs. Angela Beyer, of Baton Rouge, LA. Cousin of the bride Miss Katelyn Hoffman of West Columbia, SC, served as Jr. Bridesmaid. Honorary Bridesmaids were Ms. Britnie McDaniel of Brockton, MA; Ms. Rachel Beasley, of Nashville, TN; and Mrs. Amanda Fogle of West Columbia, SC. The bride’s attendants wore short apple-red dresses and carried gerber daisy bouquets.

Father of the groom Donald J. Koets served as Best Man. Groomsmen included the bride’s brother, Aaron Lee Davis, of Cincinnati, OH; Scott W. White of Anderson, SC; James R. Wilson, IV, of Greenville, SC; Jeremy McMichael of Hinesville, GA; Stephen B.E. Roland, of Charleston, SC; R. Bradley Smith of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Lt.jg Zachary L. Nesbitt, of Norfolk, VA; and Brandon L. Esco of Florence, SC. Master Nolan Beyer of Baton Rouge, LA, served as Ringbearer, dressed as a little Dutch boy in wooden shoes. Music was provided by Ernestine Singleton, soloist, and Lou Norman, violinist.

Miss Davis is a graduate of Edisto High School. She graduated from USC-Aiken with a Bachelor of Science degree and is currently employed as a massage therapist in Charleston, SC. Mr. Koets graduated from Summerville High School and later received a BS in Computer Science from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. He is employed as a civilian for the U.S. Navy in Charleston.

After honeymooning in Jamaica, the couple will make their home in Charleston, South Carolina.
