Panther swimmers compete at state meet

The Pinewood Panther swimmers traveled to the Augusta Aquatics Center last week for their final swim meet of the 2013 season.

The meet started with the Pinewood 200-yard Medley Relay team of Samantha Hilleshiem, Anna Rook, Emily Pelcher and Katie Smoak placing eighth. In the 200 Freestyle, eighth-grader Matti Easterday placed 10th with a personal best time. She also finished her 500 Freestyle in 10th place with another personal best time.

Sophomore Summer Ricciardi placed fifth in the 50 Freestyle and seventh in the 100 Butterfly. The Panther 200 Freestyle Relay team of Emily Shuler, Pelcher, Smoak and Easterday placed sixth.

Senior Laura Lai had a personal best time to place 10th in the 100 Breaststroke. Finally, the team of Shuler, Hilleshiem, Rook and Easterday ended the meet with a seventh-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The Lady Panthers finished ninth in the team standings.

The Pinewood boys started the meet with a sixth-place finish by the 200 Medley Relay team of Louis Easterday, Jacob Jurgensmeyer, Michael Saeger and Bo Hiel. In the 200 Freestyle, Saeger placed sixth while teammate Sam Danielson placed eighth.

Freshman Ray Mennetti had a 10th place finish and a personal best time in the 200 Individual Medley, and placed 10th in the 100 Freestyle. Danielson placed 10th in the 50 Freestyle with a personal best time of 25.71.

Three Pinewood swimmers scored in the 500 Freestyle with Saeger placing seventh, Nathan Greenslit placing ninth and Krish Patel placing 10th. The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Danielson, Mennetti, Hiel and Greenslit swam to a sixth-place finish. Louis Easterday tied for 10th place in the 100 Backstroke.

In the final event of the meet, the Pinewood 400 Freestyle Relay the team of Saeger, Greenslit, Patel and Mennetti placed fifth.

The Pinewood boys finished seventh in the team standings.
