The Fort Dorchester and Ashley Ridge girls’ golf teams both qualified for the Class AAAA State Tournament to be played next week at Willow Creek Country Club in Greer.
The 2013 Girls AAAA Lower State Qualifying Tournament was held at Wescott Plantation Monday. Lexington played well to finish with a record-setting round of 278.
Fort Dorchester came in with a round of 356 to place seventh and Ashley Ridge carded a 358 to place eighth.

The low medalist for the Lower State tournament was Lexington’s Was Laura Stephenson with a round of 64 that set a new Wescott Plantation course record.
Freshman Delanie Mortier led the Lady Patriots with a personal-best score of 81. Sophomore Taylor Mayers overcame disappointing performances on the first two holes to finish with an 88. Junior Abby Ondrus also got off to a rough start but finished strong to finish at 91. Eighth-grader Jordan Carlson shot a career-low round of 96.
The Ashley Ridge girls turned in their best round of the year to finish just behind Fort Dorchester.
Annette Paxton came in with a score of 80 to lead the Lady Swamp Foxes. Teammates Grace Zoller (83) and Danielle Paxton (89) were right on her heels.
Bluffton carded a 306 to finish as the Lower State runner-up. Other Lower State teams advancing to the state-championship match are South Aiken, White Knoll, Carolina Forest and Dutch Fork.
