DD2 academic awards make history

The most students in the 20-year history of the Dorchester District Two Academic Awards have earned honors for the 2012-2013 school year, according to the DD2 district office.

A total of 694 sophomores, juniors and seniors earned academic honors this year, setting a district record. Last year there were 497 honorees.

Students earning an A in every subject received the Board of Trustees Award. There were 108 this year.

The budget for this year’s program at the three high schools was $15,000 which was raised through sponsorships of local businesses and community groups.

MeadWestvaco provided a $1,000 scholarship for a senior receiving an Academic Award in each of the three high schools.

Academic Award honorees nominated 240 teachers as Special Teachers this year.
