Cobras fall to Warriors

  • Friday, November 8, 2013

Any chance Cane Bay High School had to make the playoffs this football season went out the window when Wando finished strong in the second half last week.

The Warriors pulled away over the final two quarters for a 34-13 victory in Mount Pleasant. The Cobras (0-10, 0-3 Region 7-AAAA) needed the victory to have a chance to make the postseason but now will only suit up one more time this fall.

They host West Ashley in the final regular season game on Friday.

The Cobras didn’t help themselves in the turnover category. Wando’s first touchdown of the game was a 60-yard fumble return.

After Romante Frasier’s 7-yard touchdown run evened the score 7-7 in the second quarter, the Warriors took the lead for good after an interception.

Darius Wade’s 42-yard touchdown reception gave Wando a 14-7 advantage after two quarters.

The Warriors (4-6, 2-2 region) then scored 20 unanswered points to lead 34-7 in the final period.

Cane Bay did manage to score again when Devin Dingle hauled in a 38-yard touchdown pass from Devin Kilgore.

The Cobras’ next opponent is coming off a 49-21 loss to Goose Creek. The Wildcats are 5-5 overall and 0-3 in the region too.

The Cobras won last year, 19-11, at West Ashley. The Wildcats could use a victory in their quest to get in the playoffs.

Class AAAA playoff pairings will be figured up Saturday morning and it helps teams to have as many victories as they can.
