Local singer makes it another week on X Factor

Jeff Lipsky/FOX Restless Road -- comprised of Zach Beeken, Colton Pack and Andrew Scholz -- has made it to the top 10 competitors on The X Factor. They will perform again tonight at 8 p.m. on FOX.

Summerville native Andrew Scholz has made it through another week on FOX’s The X Factor. His group, Restless Road, is one of the 10 contestants left.

The group’s fate was put in the hands of the public two weeks ago when the show began asking viewers to vote for their favorite performances.

Before that, the three judges chose which acts would continue to the next round.

Scholz auditioned for The X Factor in May, just a few days before he graduated from Summerville High School.

To show their support, SHS opened their computer labs to allow students to vote on the Nov. 6 show. However, there was an error with the voting system that caused three contestants to be taken out of the running during last week’s shows on Nov. 13 and 14.

Despite the unusual turn of events, Restless Road made it through to the final 10.

The country group consists of three male singers who originally entered the competition as solo performers, but were later formed into a group by judge Simon Cowell.

The X Factor airs twice a week, on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. The acts perform once on Wednesdays before the public votes for their favorite. On Thursday nights, the act with the lowest number of votes is immediately eliminated. The performers with the second and third lowest number of votes then perform again, competing against each other for the judges’ favor. The judges then decide which of the two acts will continue in the competition.

With so much of their fate left to the voters, Scholz said he’s thankful for all of the support he’s received from his hometown.

“I just want to say that I’m so grateful for having as much support from home as I do,” he said. “No matter what happens with the show I know that they will always be there to support us and I want to say thank you so much for everything y’all have done and are doing.”

SHS Assistant Principal Michelle Leviner said the school “will open up labs again for future performances, although it may not be every performance. We [the District] haven’t decided yet.”

Watch Scholz and his band Restless Road perform again on The X Factor tonight, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m.
