Summerville Dream invites you to usher in the holiday season at its Third Thursday event from 5 to 8 p.m. on November 21, 2013! This month’s theme is “Bury Hunger in Summerville,” and what better way to begin the holidays than to share our abundance with others? In light of the theme, Parks Funeral Home is graciously providing a hearse at Hutchinson Square to collect nonperishable food items – anything canned, bagged, or boxed (just check those expiration dates, please). The food will go to two local organizations, HELP of Summerville and the Dorchester Senior Center, which will create some 300 Christmas baskets for our elderly shut-in neighbors. Think big – let’s fill the hearse to overflowing! If each attendee brings in just one or two items, consider the difference we will make, based on an estimated attendance of a thousand. For those bringing in items, renowned storyteller Tim Lowry will give out codes for a free download of his rendition of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.
WCBD-TV Channel 2 will be broadcasting live, and the atmosphere will sure to be festive with performances from Windsor Hill Elementary School, Kelly’s Dance, and musicians staged around Hutchinson Square, Short Central, and in front of Town Hall. Our downtown businesses will be open late and in the holiday spirit, too, with beautiful decorations and unique holiday gift items for you to get a head start on your shopping.
So invite your family, colleagues, friends and neighbors for a fun evening and show everyone that our town has the true holiday spirit – enough to Bury Hunger in Summerville! Can’t join us? Four Green Fields, A Very Little Bookstore, and
People, Places, & Quilts also will be accepting food donations from Monday, November 18, through Saturday, November 23.
