Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville is the winner of the 2013 South Carolina State High School Quiz Bowl.
Nine South Carolina Independent School Association member-schools recently squared off for a rousing, single-elimination, four-person team competition of knowledge and skill.
At the completion of the all-day competition, SCISA Executive Director Larry Watt announced that This year’s championship team was comprised of Samuel Lopez, Logan Dwyer, Sean Carter, Dale Shelton, Anna Kassing and Ryan Mazalatis. Stuart McMullan, Wendy Girgan and Stephanie Todaro served as team sponsors.
The second-place team was Palmetto Christian Academy in Mt. Pleasant, and Wilson Hall School, Sumter, was the third-place team.
“The knowledge of these quiz bowl participants is phenomenal,” Watt said. “We congratulate all of the students and their sponsors for an excellent job in preparing for this competition.”
The SCISA Quiz Bowl is an academic question and answer game played between two teams of four players each. A moderator asks questions, and points are awarded to the team which is the first to signal and correctly answer within the time allowed.
Questions range from a variety of categories such as art, history, science and language. Every fifth question in each round is related to mathematics.
SCISA member schools compete at regional quiz bowl competitions before advancing to the state finals.
