  • Thursday, December 5, 2013

Dr. William D. Yarbrough spent a high school summer working as a hospital orderly in Anderson, his hometown, and enjoyed caring for patients so much he decided to become a doctor. Dr. Yarbrough now serves as Trident Health’s medical director for cardiovascular services in addition to his daily work as a cardiologist, which includes responding to emergency heart attack cases with the cardiac catheterization lab team. He also helped lead efforts to streamline heart attack response so each patient’s artery could be unclogged as quickly as possible, typically within 54 minutes of arriving at Trident Medical Center. “If you can improve a system, you can make it better, overall, for the future,” says Dr. Yarbrough, who is now working on systematic changes to better address the chronic condition of heart failure.   Medical School: Medical University of South Carolina
