Choice Gymnastics out of Summerville fared well at the Crown of the Carolinas meet last weekend.

The meet, one of the most prestigious of its kind in the southeast, hosted nearly 1,000 gymnasts including some from as far away as Barbados and the Cayman Islands. Choice gymnasts made 74 trips to the podium including nine to receive first-place all-around awards. The Summerville gym garnered 27 first-place finishes for individual events.

Two standout performers on the weekend were Amy Willems, an XCEL Gold level gymnast, and Emma Biron a Level 4 gymnast. They both received the elusive “crown” this year by earning the highest all-around score in their sessions.

Willems also tallied 37.425 points to finish with the second highest all-around score among all 970 gymnasts. Her scores included first-place finishes on vault (9.575), bars (9.4) and beam (9.6) and a second place on floor (8.850).

Biron also brought home hardware with four first-place podium visits for vault (9.150), bars (9.450), beam (9.375) and floor (9.275). She earned sixth place among all gymnasts with an all-around score of 37.250.

Choice Gymnastics will be in action again Dec. 7-8 as it hosts its annual Silver Bells Invitational at the Hanahan Recreation and Parks Gymnasium. For more information on the meet, visit www.silverbellsinvitational.com.
