  • Friday, December 13, 2013

The Summerville Preservation society will host an open house on Sun., Dec. 15 to celebrate Summerville’s birthday. The town was founded in 1847.

Dr. Nicholas Butler will give a lecture on “Seasonal Migrations from Coast to Pineland: A Lowcountry Tradition.” The lecture will focus on how Summerville began.

“Dr. Butler previously presented a program on music during the War between the States – and it was one of our most interesting an informative,” said society President Heyward Hutson. Butler is the Public Historian with the Charleston County Public Library.

The meeting will also present an opportunity to shop. Sale items will include a limited number of candleholders hand made by Dr. Brunson Westbury. Beeswax candles made by Ellyn Hutson and insulators by Clarice and Lang Foster will also be available for purchase. Other items for sale include eight different prints, note cards, maps, mugs, books and more.
